EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Robin Thompson (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) has been named a Capital One Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today (May 26).
Thompson earned a spot on the Academic All-America third team, making her the fifth Wildcat in program history to win the award. Thompson, a human development and psychological services major, will be a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree when she crosses the stage at graduation next month. She also won the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award in 2010.
Thompson -- a Detroit Public School product -- joins former Wildcat greats Karen Lemke (1985), NU Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Chinazo Opia (1989-90), Kim Metcalf (1990) and three-time All-American Garland Cooper (2006-07) as the 'Cats who have earned Academic All-America status.
On the field, Thompson was named an All-Big Ten second-team selection this season after leading Northwestern with a .426 conference batting average, scoring 16 runs and driving in 10 while going a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
