EVANSTON, Ill. -- On the heels of last week's two-game series announcement with Notre Dame, Northwestern University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips announced today a four-game football series with Stanford University. The Wildcats and Cardinal will play their first game in 2019.

Northwestern and Stanford have played six times previously, with the last meeting coming in 1994, a wild and memorable 41-41 tie with the then-No. 24-ranked Cardinal in Evanston. The two schools played their first football game in 1933.

"We're thrilled to add another tremendous institution like Stanford to our future nonconference schedules," said Phillips. "Having Stanford on our future schedules, along with Notre Dame, Boston College, California, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, makes this an exciting time to be a fan of Chicago's Big Ten football team."

The first game in the series is scheduled to take place in Evanston on Sept. 14, 2019. Northwestern will then head to Palo Alto the following year (Sept. 19, 2020) before playing in Evanston in 2021 (Sept. 18) and back in Palo Alto in 2022 (Sept. 17).
