EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern is gearing up for the 2011 football season and fans are encouraged to do the same by attending the Wildcats' annual Spring Exhibition on Saturday, April 16 at Ryan Field.
Fans can begin parking in the east and west lots at 7 a.m. when the lots open for tailgating. The gates open at 10:30 a.m., and the exhibition begins at noon, weather permitting.
There is no true admission fee, but Northwestern Athletics, in its partnership with Campus Kitchen at Northwestern University, is asking that fans bring non-perishable or canned-food items for a food drive.
"Campus Kitchen at Northwestern University (CKNU) is excited and appreciative to be beneficiaries of Northwestern Athletics' annual spring football event," said Joanna Racho, CKNU's program coordinator. "Northwestern University and the Evanston community have always been invaluable supporters of CKNU by providing us with resources and volunteers to ensure our mission in providing meals to those in need is carried out."
All food donated at the Spring Exhibition will go toward CKNU's summer meal bags to assist families in need. For more information, visit their website at CampusKitchen.org.
There are a lot of activities planned for this year like interactive inflatables in the stadium, on-field games, face painting, concessions and a pre-exhibition youth clinic for kids who want to work on their football fundamentals. A special change this year is the adoption of the "Cool Down with the `Cats." Fans of all ages are welcome to come onto the field at the end of the exhibition, cool down with the team, and get pictures and autographs.
In addition, the deadline for renewing season tickets is April 16. Fans who have already renewed, renew at the game or purchase new season tickets at the Spring Exhibition will have the opportunity to spin a wheel at the ticket sales booth to win great prizes including autographed Fitz footballs, used game jerseys and more. Account executives will be on hand to answer any questions fans have regarding tickets.
