Northwestern Announces 2011 Spring Tournament Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head volleyball coach Keylor Chan has announced the Wildcats spring schedule, which will take the 'Cats to three Midwest states plus a home event at Welsh-Ryan Arena on April 23.
"We're really looking forward to the spring schedule and seeing the progress the team can make in the offseason," said Chan. "We are going to have a young team next season, so as much on-court experience we can get, the better off we will be once the fall rolls around. These spring tournaments aren't so much about the scores, but rather the development of our girls."
Northwestern kicks off the spring schedule right where the 2010 campaign left off, traveling to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to compete in the Northern Iowa Spring Tournament on April 9. NU then heads north to Milwaukee for the Marquette Scrimmage on April 14.
The Wildcats return home to host the Wildcat Spring Tournament at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday, April 23, welcoming Illinois-Chicago, UW-Green Bay and Illinois State to Evanston. Northwestern's spring schedule concludes on April 30, scrimmaging Ohio at the Circle City Sports Complex in Indianapolis.
Northwestern is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history, finishing 20-13 on the year and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament in Cedar Falls. Middle blocker Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) was named a second team AVCA All-American and was a unanimous All-Big Ten selection. Naomi Johnson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) was an honorable mention selection as both an AVCA All-American and All-Big Ten, with Stephanie Holthus (Burlington, Ill./Central) being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
