EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sophomore Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) has been named the Big Ten's Player of the Week following her performance at the 2011 Cathedral City Classic.

Allard batted .588 (10-for-17) in Northwestern's five games while going a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Against the two ranked teams NU played, she went 6-for-8 (.750) at the plate.

Allard began the week by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk against Nevada, tying her own school single-game record with four stolen bases in the game. After NU defeated Florida State, Allard was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and a run in a loss to No. 24 Texas A&M.

She then collected a hit and a sacrifice in a win over Oregon State before doing everything in her power to help NU upset No. 2 UCLA with a three-hit, two-run effort (including scoring the game-tying run in the seventh inning), but NU ultimately fell in extra innings to the Bruins.

The honor is the second of Allard's career. She currently leads the Big Ten with a .571 batting average and 13 stolen bases in 13 attempts in NU's 12 games this year.
