EVANSTON, Ill. -- Before settling in for a four-match homestand that will cover two weeks, No. 70 Northwestern ventures to the southeast this weekend for two tough road tests. NU begins play at 3 p.m. CT Friday against North Carolina State before meeting William & Mary at 9 a.m. CT Sunday.
Scouting North Carolina State
Northwestern represents the second consecutive Big Ten team the Wolfpack have hosted in Raleigh after edging Penn State, 4-3, last week. The meeting is just third all-time between NU and N.C. State, with each team claiming a win in the first two. The Wolfpack feature three ranked singles players in No. 61 Jaime Pulgar, No. 82 Dominic Hodgson and No. 106 Dave Thomson.
Scouting William & Mary
The Wildcats and Tribe have played to tight outcomes in back-to-back matches, beginning with a 4-3 William & Mary victory in 2009 followed by a 5-2 NU triumph a year ago. The Tribe are coming off a 4-3 win over Harvard on Sunday, a team that Northwestern managed to defeat 6-1 earlier in the season. Anton Andersson has held down the No. 1 singles spot this season, posting a 6-4 record in that position thus far.
Looking Ahead
Northwestern has a busy home schedule coming up, beginning with a Friday night tilt with No. 44 Vanderbilt on Feb. 18. The 'Cats then entertain Northern Illinois and Western Illinois is a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a fourth consecutive home match on Friday, Feb. 25 against Western Michigan. All men's tennis matches at the Combe Tennis Center offer free admission for all fans.
