LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Morgan Jones and Kendall Hackney turned in double-digit efforts, but it was not enough as Northwestern dropped a 64-45 decision to Kansas State in its second game of the BTI Invitational in Las Vegas. With the loss, Northwestern, which was out to its best start since 1995, falls to 9-2 on the year.

Jones finished with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Hackney turned in a 14-point, seven-rebound performance.

It was worth coming down with a bit of amnesia after the first 20 minutes, as Kansas State took a 39-14 lead into halftime.

With an unfortunate first half behind them, Northwestern came out of the locker room with renewed energy on both ends of the floor. The 'Cats held Kansas State--which shot 51 percent in the first half--to just one basket in the first seven minutes, while going on a 12-3 run to cut it to 42-23. The freshman duo of Karly Roser and Jones were responsible for the point production, as Roser took a charge, came up with a steal and posted five points. Jones turned in the other seven points during the spurt.

NU cut it to 14--46-32--midway through the second half, but every time the Wildcats would string together a couple of buckets, Kansas State would answer with a three. Despite outscoring KSU in the second half, Northwestern ultimately ran out of time, and fell for just the second time this year.

The Wildcats return to Cox Pavilion tomorrow evening for a 7 p.m. CT contest against North Dakota State.
