Northwestern Team Notes
- In its first home game in almost a month, Northwestern played Michigan for the first time since 2008, when the Wildcats defeated UM 21-14 in Ann Arbor.
- The game marks the first of three consecutive night games (6 p.m. or later kickoff). The Wildcats will play at Iowa next week and host Penn State in two weeks. Both games will start at 6 p.m. CDT. NU never has played consecutive games under the lights at Ryan Field and never more than once in a season. Northwestern has played 13 home night games in its history, and 11 since 1998.
- For the second consecutive week, Northwestern forced three turnovers (all interceptions).
- The Wildcats intercepted three passes in a game for the first time since they pulled it off against Illinois State on Sept 11, 2010. Not since the Purdue game in 2008 has NU picked off three passes in a half.
- Northwestern and Michigan both have a turnover margin for the season at +6. Going into the game, the Wolverines ranked first in the Big Ten at +7, while NU was second at +5. Through five games this season, the Wildcats have thrown only two interceptions, while picking off six opponent passes (including three today).
- Northwestern now has scored in double figures in 52 straight games.
- The Wildcats started the season with eight touchdowns on the ground, followed by seven consecutive scores by the pass. The last four NU TDs (including all three today) came on the ground.
- Northwestern holds a 52-24 scoring advantage against foes in the second quarter this season.
- The sellout attendance of 47,330 is Northwestern's largest home crowd since the Ryan Field renovation in 1997.
- Senior QB Dan Persa threw for a career-best 331 yards, while he tied a career best with 32 completions (he had highs of 318 yards and 32 completions against Iowa last season).
- Persa completed passes to eight different receivers tonight.
- With 326 yards of total offense, Persa moved from 13th to 10th on the NU career total offense yardage list at 3,935. He passed Morrie Daigneau (3,930 yards, 1969-71), Mike Kerrigan (3,856, 1979-81) and Darnell Autry (3,609, 1994-96).
- True freshman WR Christian Jones had career bests of three receptions for 68 yards. His team-long 39-yard reception tonight is also his longest as a Wildcat.
- QB/WR Kain Colter's first-quarter touchdown gives him five for the season, which, along with WR Jeremy Ebert, leads the team.
- Colter is the only Wildcat to amass rushing, passing and receiving yards this season. Tonight he caught a personal-best three passes for a career-high 37 yards.
- Senior WR Jeremy Ebert led all receivers with 11 catches, which ties a career single-game best set last season against Purdue.
- Senior S Brian Peters' ninth career interception moved him into a three-way tie for sixth place on NU's career interception list (with Sherrick McManis, 2006-09, and Willie Lindsey, 1989-92).
- Peters has pickoffs in consecutive games (including an interception last week at Illinois).
- CB Jordan Mabin tied a career high with a game-leading 12 tackles. His game-high of eight solos is a personal best.
- P Brandon Williams averaged a single-game career best 46.7 yards per punt (three kicks)..
- WR Venric Mark added a 20-yard punt return to his season totals and giving him an 18.0 yards per punt average after five games.
- DE Tyler Scott registered a personal-best seven tackles (six solos).
- S Ibraheim Campbell notched his first two career interceptions, both in the first half. Brian Peters was the last player to record two interceptions in a game (vs. Illinois on Nov. 20, 2010).
