Draw Information and Tentative Schedule
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Head coach Arvid Swan and the Northwestern men's tennis team will wrap up the 2011 fall campaign this weekend at the Big Ten Men's Indoor Tennis Championships, which are being hosted by the University of Iowa.
The Wildcats will send six players into the singles draw led by senior Josh Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet). Graves enters the field as the second seed in the draw behind only Josh McTaggart of Indiana. Another 'Cat, sophomore Raleigh Smith (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), is ranked in seeds 9-16. Graves will face Minnesota's Mathieu Froment in the round of 64, while Smith will square off with Wisconsin's Austin Akers.
Graves and Smith will also team up to create Northwestern's lone doubles entry for the weekend. They are slated to take on Indiana's duo of McTaggart and Stephen Vogl in the opening round on Friday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m.
Back in the singles draw, seniors Eric Spector (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck) will also participate for the Wildcats, as will freshmen Nikhil Jayashankar (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) and Alberto Zanotti (Valencia, Venezuela/C.I. Carabobo). Spector faces Purdue's William Heuer in the opening round of play; Zanotti also faces a Boilermaker in Evan Hawkins. Reitz will play Illinois' Stephen Hoh and Jayashankar draws Wisconsin's Alex Teppert.
Doubles play will begin Friday, Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. and continue until approximately 7 p.m. The round of 64 begins Saturday, Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. with the main draw round of 32 scheduled to begin around 2 p.m. Singles play continues through Monday's championship match which is slated for 12 p.m.
