Northwestern Wraps Up Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Three members of Northwestern's men's tennis team concluded the week at the Wildcat Invitational at the Combe Indoor Tennis Center. Eric Spector, Nikhil Jayashankar and Alberto Zanotti combined to accumulate nine wins over the three day event.
On Sunday, the final day, Zanotti (Valencia, Venezuela/C.I. Carabobo) was the lone victor for the 'Cats. Competing in Flight B, Zanotti faced Sven Kasper from DePaul in his final match. After dropping the first set, 6-7 (1), the Venezuelan rebounded to win the second set, 6-4, before capturing the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5.
Spector (Northbrook, Ill/Glenbrook North), playing in Flight A of the singles draw, also faced an opponent from the Blue Demons roster in George Chanturia. The lone Northwestern upperclassman in the event lost to Chanturia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Jayashankar (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) opened the tournament with back-to-back wins in the singles draw on Friday and Saturday before meeting his match on Sunday against Tim Kopinski of Illinois. Kopinski knocked off Jayashankar in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Wildcats will conclude the fall campaign next weekend at the Big Ten Singles Championship in Iowa City, Iowa. Seven of the team's 10 student-athletes are slated to participate in that event.
