COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Northwestern will send six of its men's tennis players to the Ohio State University this weekend to compete in the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships beginning Friday. The Wildcats will be represented by five entries in the main singles draw and three pairings in the main doubles draw.
The main singles draw kicks off Friday morning. Both Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) at No. 9 and Spencer Wolf (Coral Springs, Fla./Laurel Springs) at No. 13 find themselves as two of the top-16 seeds in the draw. Wolf will take on Wisconsin's Alex Kostanov in the opening round, while Wolf is slated to face one of eight qualifiers who are currently vying for a spot. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Jesse Owens West at 11:15 a.m.
Senior Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck), sophomore Raleigh Smith (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and freshman Alexandru Pasareanu (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) are all entered in the main singles draw, as well. Reitz will play DePaul's Sven Kasper, Smith will take on Michigan State's Ron Hulewicz and Pasareanu faces sixth-seeded Peter Kobelt from Ohio State. All three of those matches are designated for the Varsity Tennis Center. Smith's match begins at 11:15 a.m., while Reitz starts at 10:30 a.m. and Pasareanu is the first scheduled to play at 9:30 a.m.
The main doubles draw also begins on Friday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. Graves and Wolf, the draw's seventh-seeded pairing will play Green Bay's Erik Finkenbrink and Craig Cox. Smith and Pasareanu will team up to face Detroit's duo of Alex Latosinsky and Mike Basha. Finally, Reitz will pair with freshman Alberto Zanotti (Valencia, Venezulea/C.I. Carabobo) against another team from Detroit, Nick Tolomei and Jay Joshi. All three of Northwestern's scheduled doubles matches will commence at 5:00 p.m.
