CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Competing on the road for the first time this season, No. 59 Northwestern looked right at home in topping No. 64 Harvard, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Murr Tennis Center in Cambridge. NU took two of three doubles matches and won four matches in straight sets to seal the dual victory and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

"I'm pleased with the way we handled a quality opponent in Harvard, I thought overall we made some strides from our first two dual matches," said head coach Arvid Swan. "We played aggressively and that's usually when good things happen for us."

The talented tandem of junior Joshua Graves and sophomore Spencer Wolf lifted NU to its third win in three tries at the No. 1 doubles spot this season, defeating a ranked opponent in No. 46 Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen, 8-5. NU then locked up a 1-0 lead after doubles when Andrew McCarthy and Tobias Reitz overcame Aba Omodele-Lucien and Joshua Tchan, 8-6, at No. 2.

Northwestern was even more impressive in singles, including at No. 4 where senior Andrew McCarthy topped Tchan, 6-4, 6-3, and at No. 6 where sophomore Chris Jackman won his second match in a row by defeating Davis Mangham, 6-4, 6-4.

Wolf (No. 2) and Reitz (No. 3) added straight-set wins while Joshua Graves split sets with Jonathan Pearlman before winning in a third-set tiebreaker, 10-6.

Northwestern resumes dual play on Friday, Feb. 4, when NU hosts Middle Tennessee at the Combe Tennis Center. Start time is set for 6 p.m. CT.
