EVANSTON, Ill. -- After opening the dual season with two matches in one afternoon, No. 59 Northwestern returns to action following a 12-day break from competition when it heads to the snowy east coast to face No. 64 Harvard in Cambridge. Start time for the dual is slated for 1 p.m. CT on Friday at Harvard's Murr Center.
Friday's contest represents the first dual match of the season for host Harvard.
The 'Cats and Crimson last met on Feb. 22, 2009, when NU blanked then-48th-ranked Harvard in dominating fashion, 7-0, winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Current Northwestern starters Joshua Graves, Tobias Reitz and Andrew McCarthy all claimed wins in that match in Evanston.
On Friday, Northwestern will be forced to contend with a strong Harvard doubles point, which features two nationally ranked pairings: No. 46 Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen as well as No. 50 Christo Schultz and Jonathan Pearlman. NU managed to secure the doubles point in both of its season-opening victories over Ball State and Illinois-Chicago, with Graves and Spencer Wolf going 2-0 at the No. 1 spot while McCarthy and Sidarth Balaji won both of their matches at No. 3.
Following its road test in Boston, Northwestern will return to Evanston for a pair of home duals next weekend beginning with Middle Tennessee State at 6 p.m. Friday evening. NU will then take on Princeton Saturday on ITA Campus Kids Day at the Combe Tennis Center. All NU men's tennis matches offer free admission for all fans.
