Welcome back NUSB fans! Get ready for a bigger, better and more blog-ful season in 2010-11!

I, Jordan Wheeler, with intermittent contributions from Michelle Batts, will work to diligently deliver this blog to you each week and give you a very comfy front seat to Northwestern softball 2011. Fresh into my senior season with NUSB, I could not be more excited to get started. This (hopefully entertaining) blog will give all of our devoted 'Cat fans a glimpse into the world we live everyday. With videos, interviews and always enjoyable stories and updates, following the 'Cats throughout our fall and spring seasons will be something you just can't resist!

The 'Cats are Back Baby!
The 'Cats reported back to beautiful Evanston just two short weeks ago and have been tirelessly working their tails off to prepare for the first games of the year at Sharon J. Drysdale field against Loyola and Illinios-Chicago. We play at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, so come out to the J this weekend for your first glimpse of the 'CATS!

Day in and day out we have been putting in the hours on and off the field to get our work done. With seven wonderful new freshmen additions to our squad, a whole lot of learning, teaching and growing have taken place in the last two weeks of practice. And I can confidently say the young 'Cats are ready to sink their claws into each and every one of our opponents this year with the rest of the litter right there with them. As we begin our year, our new coaching addition Courtnay Foster (NU '06) has gone above and beyond to team up with Kate and Caryl to work this team to the core. Our giant pitching staff is draggin' the dirt early and the rest of the team isn't leaving the field 'til dinner time. While our new lifts and runs have landed us in the cold tub each day, we're here to put in the work this year and there's no question in any of these kittens' minds that NUSB is going to get the job done.

This weekend we are faced with our first opponents of the year, and while fall games are always a little shaky, the 'Cats are ready to fight. Freshman pitcher Sammy Albanese described her first two weeks of collegiate practice as challenging and rewarding and, as for her first collegiate game this Sunday, she is both anxious (the good kind of course) and incredibly PUMPED!! Senior first baseman Michelle Batts says she is first and foremost feeling dominant and merciless. With the last three seasons behind her she is ready to start a new adventure and make this season unforgettable.

It is going to be an undoubtedly thrilling season for the 'Cats this year so get out to the J and watch us give it our all! And tune in next week for our first video blog of the year, with an introduction to our pre-game routines, post-game interviews, and sneaky, never before seen footage of the 'Cats!

Peace, Love, and NUSB,

Wheels
