EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody has announced that Director of Basketball Operations John Davidson has decided to step down from the position after serving NU for the last 18 seasons. Davidson has accepted a position as Vice President of Operations at JumpForward, a company that provides technology solutions to coaches and universities.
"John has been a tremendous asset to the Northwestern men's basketball program for the last 18 years," said Carmody. "He's a very talented individual and will be equally outstanding in this new chapter of his life. We're all extremely grateful for his dedication and service to the program since his time as a student here and we wish him and his family nothing but the best. He will always be a Wildcat."
A native of Naperville, Ill., Davidson started at NU as a student manager for Head Coach Bill Foster in 1992 and worked in a variety of capacities for the program until he was hired as the Director of Operations in 1998. In his current position, he has assisted in all aspects of the everyday workings within the Wildcat basketball office and program, including recruiting and all travel arrangements, as well as overseeing the team managers.
He has worked with a total of four head coaches at Northwestern, serving under Ricky Byrdsong and Kevin O'Neill in addition to Foster and Carmody.
"I cannot thank Northwestern and Coach Carmody enough for the opportunity they have given me to do something I love and represent a university I believe in," Davidson said. "I'd also like to extend my appreciation to the hundreds of players, parents and colleagues who have made my job easier along the way. It's been a difficult decision, but I am very excited to be moving to a position where I can continue to help coaches and universities be successful. My family and I will always bleed purple and we will continue to support the Cats any way we can."
