EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Thursday at Camp Kenosha consisted of a single workout at 11 a.m. on the fields at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Following is your practice report for the day.

WEATHER
For the first time since the Wildcats arrived in Kenosha Saturday night, the temperature was quite warm. With no breeze to speak of, the temperature climbed into the mid 80's with above 50 percent humidity.

PRACTICE
• Despite the heat, the workout was a typical spirited battle on the field. During interior drills, the defense forced multiple turnovers and let the offense know it needed to ratchet up the intensity to match.

• Offensive coordinator Mick McCall and defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz had an entertaining back-and-forth during 11-on-11 drills, firing up both sidelines. Shortly after the exchange, Demetrius Fields hauled in a pass and sprinted 70 yards to paydirt.

• During two-minute drills at the end of the practice, Rashad Lawrence made a terrific one-handed touchdown catch in the back corner of the end zone despite blanket coverage from Demetrius Dugar. For his part, Dugar made several spectacular pass breakups, at one time getting perfectly horizontal to the ground while leaping from behind a receiver to swat the ball away. Newly converted cornerback Jeravin Matthews also had several good pass defenses on the day.

• Visitors to practice Thursday included Northwestern football public address announcer Gary Ross and new Northwestern Senior Associate AD for External Affairs Mike Polisky.
