Sabel Moffett A Unanimous Preseason All-Big Ten Selection

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior middle blocker Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) has been named to the 2010 Preseason All-Big Ten Volleyball Team, announced today by the conference office. Moffett was a unanimous selection among the Big Ten's 11 head coaches.
Moffett ranked among the conference leaders in 2009, placing fifth in the Big Ten in blocks per set and sixth in hitting percentage, kills per set and points per set en route to receiving All-Big Ten honors. She set a program single-season record with her .349 hitting percentage and led the Wildcats in both kills (398) and blocks (165) and was named an AVCA honorable mention All-American.
During the offseason, Moffett was one of 24 players to the U.S. National A2 Team and helped the A2 Red Team to a bronze medal at the U.S.A. Volleyball National Open Championship in June. Entering the 2010 campaign, she ranks second all-time in Northwestern history in hitting percentage, ninth in block assists and 10th in solo blocks.
Moffett was one of eight players who were a unanimous selection to the preseason team, which was voted on by the conference's head coaches. In addition, three-time national champion Penn State was selected first in the 2010 preseason poll, followed by Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State and Michigan.
Northwestern begins its 2010 season in just over two weeks, facing Loyola (Chicago) in the Chicago Challenge at DePaul on Friday, Aug. 27. The Wildcats' first home match will be against Mississippi at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, which will be part of the 2010 Northwestern Challenge at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
