EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's swimming team has been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-Academic Team for the 2009-10 academic year.

The Wildcats earned a team GPA of 3.008 to win the award, which honors squads that compile team marks of 3.0 and above. Northwestern was one of 60 NCAA Division I teams honored nationwide in head coach Jarod Schroeder's first season at the helm of the program.

In addition to its academic prowess, the Wildcats sent a pair of representatives to the NCAA Championships in 2010. Juniors Alex Tyler (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Groves) and Sean Mathews (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) qualified for the meet, with Tyler earning honorable mention All-America honors with a 16th-place finish in the 200 IM to place NU 34th in the nation. It was the ninth time in the last 10 years that NU has placed at the NCAA Championships.
