Six Wildcats Named to 2010 NFF Hampshire Honor Society

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Six seniors from Northwestern's 2009 football team were named today to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) or better.
Named to the Society from Northwestern are: wide receiver Andrew Brewer (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks), defensive tackle Adam Hahn (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union), wide receiver Zeke Markshausen (Capron, Ill./North Boone), offensive tackle Kurt Mattes (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), offensive lineman Desmond Taylor (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) and superback Mark Woodsum (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove).
In addition to achieving a 3.2 cumulative GPA, an honoree must have been a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility and must be meeting all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's current National Scholar-Athlete program, greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year and further strengthening the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes who play football at the more than 700 college and universities with football programs nationwide.
All six Northwestern players earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2009 while Brewer was a National Football Foundation Draddy Trophy semifinalist last fall.
