EVANSTON, Ill. -- A pair of Wildcats have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Great Lakes Region selections, announced today by the NFCA. Junior designated player Michelle Batts (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) picked up a first-team honor while freshman shortstop Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) earned second-team consideration.

The NFCA again made changes to its award program this year, re-instituting first- and second-team awards after having just one large first team in 2009. Members of both teams are eligible for All-America consideration, so both Batts and Allard will be placed on the national ballot.

Batts earned All-Region honors for the second time in her career after being a second-team choice as a freshman in 2008. She batted .305 this season with a team-best 13 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Allard led Northwestern in batting average in her first-collegiate season, hitting .367. She also stole 34 bases in 37 attempts, the most for any Wildcat since 1995, to rank in the top-10 in the nation in stolen bases per game.
