EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern concludes a lengthy stretch of Big Ten road series this weekend when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., for a pair of games April 24-25 at Indiana. The contests will mark the fourth conference road trip for NU in its last five league matchups.
Northwestern is coming off a doubleheader sweep at Michigan State, where the 'Cats topped the Spartans by a combined 24-0 in 10 innings of play across two games. In the first, NU put up eight runs in the second inning before cruising to a 15-0 (5) triumph. The 15 runs scored were the most for NU in any game since a 16-5 (5) defeat of Iowa on April 15, 2009. In the second game, senior Nicole Pauly collected the 49th and 50th home runs of her career to pace the Northwestern offense in a 9-0 (5) victory. Pauly is the third Wildcat in school history to reach 50 home runs in her career, joining Tammy Williams (57) and Garland Cooper (55) on the NU all-time list.
Both of NU's pitchers in the MSU series, Jessica Smith in game one and Lauren Delaney in game two, tossed two-hit shutouts for the Wildcats. Smith's effort matched her career low for base hits allowed in a game.
Senior Kelly Dyer has been red-hot of late, going 7-for-8 with four doubles and a home run in Northwestern's last three games to raise her batting average a full .050 points to .264 on the year.
Indiana enters this weekend's series at 3-7 in the Big Ten, ranking it ninth in the conference. Northwestern has won the last 10 meetings between the two schools dating to 2004. IU has a pair of NU connections; both Hoosier assistants previously were assistants in Evanston. Christy Hebert coached the 'Cats in 1999-2000 while Amanda Rivera was a volunteer coach from 2006-07.
