EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern began its final week of spring practice with another intense and spirited full-pad session on NU's FieldTurf practice field. After a slow start to the spring, the Wildcats are closing with a fury, having held some of their best spring practices in the past eight days.
In its final two updates before Saturday's official Spring Scrimmage, NUsports.com is chatting with the Wildcats' offensive and defensive coordinators to get their recap of the 2010 spring season and what to watch for on Saturday. NUsports.com interviewed offensive coordinator Mick McCall on Tuesday.
"As an offense, we feel pretty good about where we're headed," said McCall, who is starting his third season at Northwestern. "We've gotten a lot better with the running game. We've got a lot more offense installed than we have the last two springs, so I'm happy with where we are.
"We've given our guys a lot of stuff, on both sides of the ball. As a unit, our offensive line and tailbacks have had the most impressive spring. I'm very pleased with their development."

PRACTICE NOTES:
Northwestern received a special visit from members of Misericordia, who spoke to the team and thanked them in advance for their assistance with Misericordia's annual Candy Days, a fundraising event that takes place this Friday and Saturday. Members of the NU football team will be collecting funds for Misericordia at the corner of Chicago and Sheridan (near the NU arch) on Friday.
A video crew from the Big Ten Network was on hand for the entire day, shooting a segment for an upcoming new show, "The Next Level," that will debut this fall on BTN. One of the shows will feature NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald, taking fans through a day-in-the-life of the 'Cats' head mentor. Another show will feature former NU football star Luis Castillo, who now plays for the San Diego Chargers.
With an "iffy" weather forecast for Saturday, stay tuned to NUsports.com, Twitter and Facebook for the latest on NU's scrimmage plans.
