Northwestern's Michigan State Series Game Notes (PDF Format) ![]()
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern kicks off a busy week of softball at 2 p.m. CT Wednesday, April 21, when it faces Michigan State in a Big Ten doubleheader in East Lansing, Mich. The Wildcats then return home to host Loyola (Chicago) at 4 p.m. CT Thursday prior to a road trip to Indiana this weekend.
The chock-full-of-softball schedule is part of a stretch for the Wildcats featuring four-of-five Big Ten series away from Sharon J. Drysdale Field. The road swing began April 7 at Iowa and concludes with two games against the Hoosiers April 24-25.
No Big Ten Network broadcasts or live streams are planned for the MSU or Indiana series. Thursday's home game against the Ramblers will be streamed live in high quality on BigTenNetwork.com with a re-air in high definition on the Big Ten Network scheduled for 9 a.m. CT on Friday, April 23.
Northwestern split its conference series last week, sweeping Minnesota in a Wednesday doubleheader in Evanston before falling in two games at No. 2 Michigan. Freshman Emily Allard hit safely in all four of those games to run her conference hitting streak to six games and raise her batting average to season highs both overall (.379) and in Big Ten play (.538). She has multiple base hits in nine of the Wildcats' last 14 games.
At the halfway point of the Big Ten season, Northwestern is in sixth place overall in a logjam in the middle of the conference standings. Its games this week come against Michigan State, which is a half game behind NU in seventh place, and Indiana, which is another half game behind that in a tie for eighth place.
