2010 Lady Buckeye Results Through Round Two
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After the opening 36 holes at the 2010 Lady Buckeye Invitational, Northwestern finds itself right where it wants to be - within striking distance of the team title. The Wildcats put together a two-round score of 48-over 624 and currently sit in second place overall heading into Sunday's final round of the Lady Buckeye.
"The Scarlet Course and the weather were the big winners today," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "The conditions were very tough all day so it was really important to see the girls get off to a solid start in the afternoon. We finished strong which was a solid way to end, and hopefully we put up a lot of red numbers tomorrow."
The highlight of the opening 36 holes for Northwestern was the play of junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), who put together a 2-over 74 in round one and a 5-over 77 in round two for a 36-hole total of 7-over 151 and currently sits in first place in the individual standings. Lindenschmidt enters Sunday's final 18-holes with a one-stroke lead over Ohio State's Rachel Rohanna.
Lindenschmidt holds a six-stroke advantage over fellow junior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), whose 13-over 157 (80-77) has her in a tie for eighth-place overall. Two other Wildcats find themselves among the top-20 rankings as sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) is tied for 14th with a 15-over 159 (84-75) while freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) enters Sunday tied for 16th with a 16-over 160 (81-79).
Conditions were sunny, yet cool and windy which posed a challenge all afternoon for the golfers. Northwestern posted a 28-over 316 in round one, which was good enough for second-place but was 12 strokes back of first-place Ohio State. But the Wildcats started to make their run in round two, shooting a 20-over 308--the lowest of the 12 team field--to trim the Buckeyes' overall lead to just nine shots heading into Sunday.
The Wildcats were also able to distance themselves from the rest of the field as they find themselves with a seven-stroke advantage over 10th-ranked Michigan State (+55, 631) in third place. Northwestern enters the final round 10 shots better than fourth-place Iowa State (+58, 634) with Indiana (+65, 641) rounding out the top-five.
Sunday's final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Because of their second-place standing, the Wildcats will be paired with the Buckeyes and Spartans, beginning on holes one through four.
