2010 Big Ten Championships Results Through Round Two
MADISON, Wis. -- Sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) posted a 3-under 69 in the second round of the 2010 Big Ten Championships, helping lead Northwestern to a fifth-place standing after the opening 36 holes. The Wildcats posted a 19-over 595 through the opening two rounds and currently sit four shots back of the host Badgers for fourth-place overall.
"Overall, it was a pretty good day and a solid start," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "We got some strong morning rounds from Alex and Rebecca (Lederhausen) with their 73's. The conditions were a little better this afternoon and overall the scores reflect that. Kylie posted her first round in the 60's for us which was huge. We're looking forward to another good day tomorrow."
After shooting a 5-over 77 through the opening 18 holes, Fuller found her groove at the University Ridge Golf Course. She birdied the first two holes of round two and added three more birdies with only a pair of bogeys en route to the career-best 69. It was tied for the third-best round of the day as Fuller currently sits in a tie for eighth-place in the individual standings with a 2-over 146.
The sister duo of junior Rebecca and Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) got the Wildcats off to a quick start at the Big Ten Championships as both posted a 1-over 73 through the opening round. Alex followed up that performance with a 4-over 76 in round two, entering Saturday's third round in a tie for 18th-place with a 5-over 149, two strokes better than Rebecca who is currently tied for 24th overall with a 7-over 151.
Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) saw the course well in round two as both golfers shot a 3-over 75 over the second 18 holes of the day. Lindenschmidt is third on the Northwestern scorecard with an 8-over 152 (77-75), two shots ahead of Weaver's 10-over 154 (79-75). Freshman Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) rounded out the Wildcat competitors with a 13-over 157 (80-77).
Looking to build off last weekend's third-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, Northwestern just missed adding to its single-season program record of sub-300 rounds, shooting a 12-over 300 through the opening 18 holes. The Wildcats then responded to shave five strokes off their second round total, posting a 7-over 295 to finish under 300 for the 14th time this season.
The Wildcats enter Saturday's third round with a four-stroke cushion over sixth-place Indiana (23-over 599) and within striking distance of a number of a handful of teams. Purdue, the reigning conference champions, has the lead after 36 holes with a 5-under 571 (289-282) and holds a 15-shot advantage over second-place Michigan State (10-over 586). Ohio State currently sits third with an 11-over 587, four shots better than the Badgers and eight shots ahead of the Wildcats.
Saturday's 18-hole third round is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. CT. with Northwestern teeing off among the first groups. The possibility of rain showers are in the forecast for the Madison area, so weather updates and live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
