EVANSTON, Ill. -- After sweeping a midweek Big Ten doubleheader against Minnesota Wednesday at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, Northwestern returns to the road April 17-18 at No. 2 Michigan for the first of three-straight conference away series.
Saturday's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CT first pitch while Sunday's contest will get underway at 2 p.m. CT. Both will be broadcast live in high definition on the Big Ten Network.
The Wildcats' offense exploded Wednesday for 19 runs in their sweep of the Gophers at Drysdale Field. Adrienne Monka led the way with a pair of home runs to give her 30 for her career in less than two full collegiate seasons. Freshman Emily Allard crossed the plate four times and recorded four stolen bases in the doubleheader. She is batting a team-best .524 through seven conference games, good for the fifth-best average in the Big Ten.
Northwestern stole seven bases in the two games with Minnesota to improve its league-best stolen base rate to 74-of-80, still the third-best ratio (.925) in the nation. The Wildcats also rank in the top 20 in the country in home runs per game after knocking three balls out of the park against the Gophers.
Michigan enters this weekend ranked second in the country and atop the Big Ten with a 7-0 conference record. Both the Wolverines and Wildcats have had one league game wiped out due to rain, with UM missing a contest against No. 18 Illinois and NU having the second-half of a doubleheader at Iowa rained out.
