EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) has been named the Big Ten's Player of the Week following a stellar 4-0 stretch for Northwestern that included a sweep of Purdue during the first weekend of conference play.
Allard was the catalyst atop the Wildcats' offensive attack, using her speed to score nine runs (2.25 per game) and go a perfect 8-for-8 in steal attempts (2.0 per game). She had multiple hits in every game, compiling a .643 batting average with five RBIs from the leadoff position in the lineup and smacking a pair of doubles as well.
She began the week by twice matching her career high for RBIs with two in non-conference games. Against Northern Illinois, she tied the Northwestern single-game record with four runs scored. Versus Purdue, Allard batted .667 (4-for-6) with four steals and three runs scored.
Allard's honor is the first of her career; she is the second Wildcat to pick up the award this season after sophomore Adrienne Monka (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) won it on Feb. 22.
