Northwestern Game Notes
  • Today's win marks the first Big Ten Tournament win for the Wildcats since their 58-56 victory over Michigan in 2005.
  • Northwestern is now 17-6 when Michael Thompson scores in double figures (16 points today).
  • Sophomore John Shurna has climbed to the top of the Northwestern single-season points list with 588 (was third behind Evan Eschmeyer, 1998 -585 and Dale Kelley, 1970 - 582). He came into the game with 574 points on the season.
  • Shurna also climbs to second on the Wildcats' single-season field-goal list with 207 (tied with Walker Lambiotte, 1989). Prior to today's game, he was fifth with 202.
  • This is the seventh time that Northwestern has won a game when trailing at half (7-11).
  • After making only two of their first 24 three-point field goal attempts, the Wildcats went on to make 5-of-7 in the last 15 minutes of the game to turn a 42-36 deficit into a 26-9 run.
  • From 1971 to 2008, Northwestern won six out of 68 meetings against Indiana. The Wildcats have now won four of the last five vs. the Hoosiers in the last two years.
  • Northwestern is now 5-12 in Big Ten Tournament play.
  • Northwestern is seeking its first semifinal berth in the Big Ten Tournament.
  • This is the largest margin of victory for Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament play (previous margin was 10 in a 54-44 victory over Penn State in 1999).
  • Today's 31 three-point attempts ties the previous Northwestern Big Ten Tournament record of 31 vs. Penn State on March 9, 2006.
  • The 12 points for Davide Curletti is a new career high.
  • Northwestern improves to 4-1 when it is the higher seeded team in the Big Ten Tournament
  • NU's 46 points in the second half ties for the most points scored in a half by Northwestern in tournament history (46 in the second half vs. Minnesota in 2003).

Indiana Game Notes

  • This is the first meeting between Indiana and Northwestern at the Big Ten Tournament. With today's game Indiana has now played all other 10 teams at the tournament.
  • Verdell Jones III has 66 points vs. Northwestern in three games this year and has scored 86 points while dishing out 31 assists in five career games vs. the Wildcats.
  • Verdell Jones III recorded his 39th career double-digit scoring game and posted the 13th 20-point scoring game of his career.
  • Verdell Jones III has 16 assists to just six turnovers in his last three games.
  • Verdell Jones III is 77-90 (.856) from the free-throw line in his last 12 games
  • The nine rebounds for Derek Elston ties a career high. He also had nine vs. Maryland on Dec. 1, 2009.
  • Indiana had six first-half turnovers and just nine in the first 26 minutes of the game, but had 13 total in the second half.
