Postgame Quotes
Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
On the game overall...
"I thought the ball movement was great, I thought the guys were moving great. Today I thought it was a real team effort. I was really proud, and it was fun to watch. That balance from inside out was pretty important."
On Northwestern's defense...
"I thought our defense was good, they didn't get that dribble penetration. We got our bodies out front a lot of the time."
On the season thus far...
"I think we've played some pretty decent basketball. We've lost some, but we've won some too. We know that we need four, five, six [wins] in a row, but we know that and we don't need to talk about it. But you know there are a lot of teams in the country that are like that too."
On the first half...
"It started getting a little hairy there, the last five minutes of the first half but when you're playing at this level, teams make little runs. I told them we have to play for 40 minutes, we can't just play for 15 minutes or 20 minutes or for just the first half."
Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean
Opening statement...
"We didn't put enough pressure on the ball. We didn't put enough pressure on the 3-point shooters. Some things didn't go right for us offensively. We came down to get stops on them and we played an uphill battle the rest of the way. The margin for error is of such that if we don't have any talent to lead us into the game to know how tough it's going to be, then it's hard for us. We did not do a good job early on of understanding how good a job they do from the three-point line. We had our hands in their chin rather than in their faces. We just need to learn how to be a more physical, aggressive possession-by-possession basketball team. We settled in, played very hard, did a lot of good things, but were never able to get it going to a point where we really threatened in this game because of the lead we gave them early on."
On players decisions at half ...
"We made some decisions that we would like to have back. We made them out of being aggressive, you know. I stressed to them so much about making the next pass and more assists. In the second half, and even late in the first half, you knew it wouldn't be that kind of a game. We needed to get to the rim and we needed to break them down off the dribble. We were doing a lot of switching so we were trying to get the ball inside. Yeah, we definitely had some timely errors every time we did start to make a threat."
On Verdell Jones' game ...
"He's getting better all the time, there's absolutely no doubt about it. He's a very hard worker. He's becoming more efficient on both ends of the court. It's really beneficial whenever he's playing with that kind of edge and that kind of versatility."
