CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Northwestern swept Purdue Saturday afternoon in the title contest of the Big Ten Match Play Championship at Heron Bay Golf Club, winning the second annual installment of the event.
Led by resounding victories at the bottom of the lineup, all six Wildcats won their matches to help NU move to 7-1 all-time in tournament. Freshman Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) secured a 6-and-5 win at No. 6, followed by Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) with a 2-and-1 victory at No. 5.
Sophomore Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) won the 17th hole to take his match 3-and-1. The remaining battles went to the 18th hole with Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) winning No. 18 for a 2up victory while both David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) held on 1up against Purdue.
Northwestern returns to action Feb. 22-23 at the Puerto Rico Classic.
