EVANSTON, Ill. -- On the heels of one of its most successful seasons in program history, Northwestern's senior middle blocking tandem of Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) and Naomi Johnson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) were named to the 2010 AVCA All-Mideast Region team. It marks the second year Moffett has been among the selections with Johnson earning her first regional honor.

"We are very proud of Sabel and Naomi as they have been selected to the Mideast All-Region team," said head coach Keylor Chan. "This is Sabel's second time being recognized and I couldn't be happier for her. Sabel lead our team in blocks this season and has been the focal point of our offense and defense during her career. Naomi has worked extremely hard over her career and this award is a result of four years of continual improvement. Over the past two years Naomi has really emerged as one of the dominant middles in our conference. I'm thrilled for both Sabel and Naomi. They both have been cornerstones of our program during their careers and will be missed."

Moffett, who was a unanimous All-Big Ten selection, led Northwestern in kills (362), hitting percentage (.345) and blocks (171), further etching her name among the program's all-time greats. For the 2010 season alone, her .345 hitting percentage was the second-best in program history, second only to her .349 in 2009. Moffett's 171 total blocks is tied for the second-highest single-season total in Wildcat history, while her 143 block assists is second all-time. She became the 19th member of the Northwestern 1,000-kill club and became just the fourth player in program history to surpass 500 career blocks. She also concludes her time in Evanston as the program's all-time hitting percentage leader, posting a .313 for her career.

Johnson posted her best season as a Wildcat in 2010, ranking second on the team in kills (358), hitting percentage (.314), service aces (32) and blocks (124), all of which are career-bests. This season was one that will be remembered in the Northwestern record books as well for Johnson as her .314 hitting percentage is the sixth-best single-season performance in program history while her 124 blocks ranks ninth all-time. Johnson concludes her career in Evanston with a .253 hitting percentage, which is tied for eighth in Northwestern history, and ranks ninth all-time in block assists with 286.

This marks the second-straight year that a pair of Wildcats have been among the All-Mideast region team as Moffett becomes the first player in program history to accomplish the feat twice. The duo join Erika Lange (2002), Chelsy Hyser (2007 honorable mention) and Kate Nobilio (2009) in an elite group of Wildcats who have been honored on the All-Region team.

Behind the leadership of both Moffett and Johnson, Northwestern experienced one of the best seasons in program history in 2010. The Wildcats posted a final record of 20-13, the second 20-win season under coach Chan, while finishing tied for seventh in the Big Ten with a 9-11 mark. The Wildcats, who knocked off five top-20 opponents over the course of the season, spent eight weeks ranked among the nation's top-25 teams and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, matching the best finish in program history.
