EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's and women's swimming and diving teams close their fall quarter schedules this Friday-through-Sunday, Nov. 19-21, when they host the TYR Invitational at the Norris Aquatics Center.
The Wildcats are hosting combined squads from UIC, Cleveland State, North Dakota and NCAA Division III powerhouse Kenyon College. Iowa State's women's squad also will attend, making the TYR a five-team men's invitational and a six-team women's event.
Preliminary and finals sessions will be held on all three days. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday with finals getting underway at 6 p.m. On Sunday, preliminary heats start at 9 a.m. with finals at 3 p.m. Admission is free for Northwestern swimming and diving competitions, but a donation of non-perishable food items for a campus-wide canned food drive is highly encouraged.
The TYR Invitational will have a familiar feel in terms of the teams involved. Three of the six teams participated in a quad-dual meet Nov. 6 at the Norris Aquatics Center, with the Northwestern men and women besting the squads from UIC and North Dakota. Recaps from that day are available here for the women and here for the men.
More recently, Northwestern traveled to Wisconsin on Nov. 11 where the women fell to their Big Ten foes but the men captured their first win in a conference dual meet since taking down then-No. 16 Penn State Feb. 1-2, 2008. NU's men enter this weekend invitational with a 4-2 dual meet record while the women are 3-3.
