EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern forward Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) was named to the 2010 Big Ten All-Freshman team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Allen led the Wildcats with six goals in the 2010 season and posted three game-winning goals, one shy of the school record for a freshman. Her 23 shots on goal during the season accounted for more than 20% of the team total.
With two goals in a season-opening win over DePaul, Allen became the first player in Northwestern history to score a pair of goals in her Wildcat debut. Allen also scored the only goal in NU's 1-0 win over then-No. 3 UCLA at the Wisconsin Tournament. She earned Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week honors for the week of August 31.
Allen also set a Northwestern record for the quickest response to an opponent goal when she got the Wildcats on the board just 16 seconds after an Indiana score in September.
The selection of Allen marks the eighth consecutive season Northwestern has been represented on the Big Ten All-Freshman team.
Senior midfielder Colleen Antas (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) was Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Student-athletes are selected for the Sportsmanship Award through a track record of sportsmanship, good ethical behavior, good citizenship off the field and a strong academic record.
