EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody has announced the hire of Joe Kennedy as the team's director of operations. Kennedy replaces John Davidson who recently left the program to pursue other professional opportunities.

His duties include assisting in all aspects of the everyday workings within the Wildcat basketball office and program, including all travel arrangements and serving as the team's academic liaison among a variety of other demands.

"This is a dream come true," Kennedy said. "I am extremely excited to assist Coach Carmody and the entire staff as Wildcat Basketball continues to move forward."

A 2007 Northwestern graduate with degrees in social policy and religion, Kennedy was a four-year letterwinner with the Wildcats from 2004-07. He served as a team captain his senior year and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

"We're very excited to welcome Joe back to Northwestern," Carmody said. "He has had a tremendous amount of high-level experience in his young professional career and will be a great asset to our program."

Kennedy rejoins the Wildcats after most recently working in the Office of Public Engagement at the White House. In that position, he acted as a liaison to key national groups and organizations, helping to promote and implement the White House administration's legislative priorities. His efforts included outreach to organizations focused on youth, amateur and professional sports, hunters and anglers, agriculture and rural and European ethnic communities.

Prior working for the Office of Public Engagement, Kennedy worked for the Obama for America campaign, as well as the President-elect's transition team.

Kennedy, who prepped at nearby Loyola Academy, hails from a basketball family. His father, Pat, is currently the head coach at Towson University and previously headed the programs at Iona, Florida State, DePaul and Montana.
