TEAM NOTES
• This was the 79th meeting between the two schools. Northwestern, which has won six of the last seven meetings, leads the all-time series 44-34-1.
• By winning its sixth game this season, Northwestern gains bowl eligibility for the fourth consecutive year.
• The last seven games in the Northwestern-Indiana series have been decided by a combined total of 26 points (3.7 ppg). Two of those contests went to overtime.
• Northwestern notched its sixth-straight true road victory, its longest such streak since it also won six in a row spanning the 1929-31 seasons. Northwestern, now 11-3 in its last 14 road contests, has won a Big Ten-best 11 road games dating to the start of the 2008 season.
• The Wildcats are now 28-8 in their last 36 games decided by seven points or less. Under head coach Pat Fitzgerald, NU is 18-7 in contests decided by seven points or less.
• This was Northwestern's first game of the 2010 season in which it did not turn the ball over.
• Northwestern has now scored in double figures in 42 straight games.
• Indiana jumped in front 3-0 with a 23-yard field goal early in the first quarter. That was the first time this season that the Wildcats' opponent had scored first in a game.
• Northwestern is now 11-1 since the start of the 2009 season when it outrushes its opponent. The Wildcats totaled 155 rushing yards to Indiana's 65.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• QB Dan Persa completed 18-of-28 passes. It was the seventh time in eight games that Persa has thrown for 200 or more yards in a game.
• Persa also recorded his first career reception today--from his own pass. Persa's pass was tipped in the air by Indiana and he caught the ball, which resulted in a 7-yard loss.
• Persa completed passes to 10 players, including himself, for a single-game most receivers this season.
• WR Jeremy Ebert caught his sixth and seventh touchdown passes of the season, the first on an 11-yard grab with 13:46 left in the second quarter, and the second on a 30-yard over-his-shoulders grab in the third quarter. Ebert, who came into the game leading the Big Ten in receiving yardage per game, finished the contest with five catches for 98 yards. Ebert has 11 receptions this season for 20 or more yards--six of those catches have gone for TD's.
• Ebert went over the 1,000-yard mark for career receiving yardage today. He now has 1,065 yards for his career.
• RB Mike Trumpy finished with a career-high 164 all-purpose yards, setting career highs with 110 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards. In the process, he became the first Wildcat to rush for more than 100 yards in a game since Tyrell Sutton in the 2008 Alamo Bowl (21 games). Trumpy caught a career-long 38-yard pass on NU's final drive of the second quarter, which helped set up Stefan Demos' 23-yard field goal as time expired at the half.
• WR Venric Mark totaled 77 all-purpose yards, with 73 return yards (punt and kickoff), five rushing yards and (-1) receiving yards.
• LB Bryce McNaul (13), CB Jordan Mabin (12) and CB Justan Vaughn (nine) all finished with career-best totals for tackles.
• PK Stefan Demos booted a 23-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, and then a 45-yard field goal with 6:51 to go in the fourth quarter. He has now converted four successive field goal attempts and seven of his last nine tries.
• DE Kevin Watt was credited with a blocked punt in the fourth quarter. The punt ended up rolling for a gain of 22 yards. NU's last player to block a punt was Ricky Weina, last year against Indiana.
