EVANSTON, Ill. - Goals by freshman Reed Losee and junior Oliver Kupe helped the Northwestern men's soccer team take down No. 15 Ohio State 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The victory is the fifth straight by the Wildcats over the Buckeyes in the regular season.

The win also helped NU remain undefeated (3-0-0) during its current five-game homestand.

Northwestern played with a purpose in the opening half, possessing the ball for long stretches at a time against the Buckeyes.

Six minutes into the match, play was stopped when Wildcat sophomore defender Jarrett Baughman went up for a header and came down hard. He laid on the field for nearly 20 minutes before eventually being taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

The Wildcats were able to maintain their focus after the long stoppage and their efforts finally paid off at the 37:20 mark. Matt Eliason played the ball ahead to Losee who was able to chip it over OSU keeper Matt Lampson, who had come out of the cage, from 20 yards out. The tally was the second of the year for the freshman forward.

Northwestern would finish the opening half of play with a 5-3 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Ohio State earned some quality opportunities early in the second half, but their shot attempts were all off target.

The 'Cats would eventually get a huge insurance goal at 59:58 as Piero Bellizzi played a through ball to Kupe who was able to slip a shot by Lampson for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Buckeyes were finally energized once faced with the two-goal deficit. NU keeper Drew Kotler made a pair of good saves to hold the visitors at bay before they were able to get on the board with 10:31 remaining on a goal by Joshua Breto.

Ohio State continued to attack the rest of the way as the Wildcats were forced to hold on for dear life to their one-goal advantage. The Buckeyes' best chance came with six minutes remaining on a shot by Sam Scales, but defender Peter O'Neill was in the right place at the right time on the goalline to make the save.

Kotler made four saves to earn the victory in goal for Northwestern. Lampson made four stops for Ohio State.

NU returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday as it hosts Northern Illinois at Lakeside Field.
