Wildcats Head to Georgia for ITA Kickoff Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads down south to Athens, Ga. for the 2010 ITA Kickoff this weekend at the University of Georgia's Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility. The Wildcats will square off against No. 7 Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. CT; the other teams at the regional are No. 28 North Carolina and No. 20 Miami (Fl.), who face off Sunday morning.
The Bulldogs are Northwestern's second SEC opponent in as many weekends, as the 'Cats knocked off No. 18 Alabama last weekend.
The winners and losers of Sunday's matches will play on Monday, with the winner of the Kickoff receiving an automatic bid to the National Team Indoors in mid-February.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Led by No. 45 Javier Garrapiz, Georgia kicked off its dual match slate last Saturday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory over No. 72 USC-Upstate. UGA is dominant at home, where it has won a record 63 consecutive matches dating back to 2005.
The Bulldogs lead the all-time series against the Wildcats, 4-2. Last season, they reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships and finished with a 25-4 record.
Georgia has won the National Team Indoors twice and reached the finals six times. The Indoors began in 1973, and Georgia has played in it every year except in 2003. The Bulldogs are the only SEC team to ever win this event.
SCOUTING THE TARHEELS
North Carolina finished its season-opening doubleheader with a convincing, 7-0 victory over North Carolina Central University last Sunday. They took the first match of their doubleheader, notching a 7-0 win against Presbyterian College 7-0. The 'Heels are led by Clay Donato, ranked No. 36 in the nation.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
No. 20 Miami (Fl.) is 1-0 on the season after sweeping Florida Atlantic University on Jan. 21. The 'Canes have three nationally ranked singles players, with junior Carl Sundberg coming in at No. 57.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern closed out its season-opening homestand with a 5-2 victory over William & Mary at the Combe Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. After sweeping doubles, NU posted four singles victories.
