Coming off of our last home dual meet, the team is in a better position than we have been all year. Since our altitude training trip in Colorado Springs, we have done nothing but take step after step forward in training, team unity and performance. The meet against Iowa did nothing but bolster that claim. Although we lost by a mere four points, there is no doubt in my mind that we surprised a lot of people across the nation and especially in the Big Ten Conference. There were multiple season bests, more wins than expected, and a nail-biting relay that had the crowd of 600 on its feet.

Since the season is coming to a rapid close, it is a good time to take a look back and review the season on both a micro and macro level. Coming from California, I expected a huge change and a rough first year while getting acclimated to my new environment. I couldn't have been more wrong. The guys on the team were great at welcoming the newcomers from day one. They made it feel as though we were already part of the Northwestern Swimming family. The level of professionalism and care that the academic services provided was something that I doubt many schools could rival. And of course, the much talked about weather...is not that bad. Of course it takes some getting used to, but it is way over exaggerated by most. I have actually grown to enjoy it - I cannot remember the last time that I was able to see the leaves change colors... Finally, with a "brand new" coaching staff, one never knows what to expect, but Jarod and Kyle have directed the team in a way that I have never seen - they are class acts and provide nothing but the best for us.

All in all, it has been a great year up to this point. We are now beginning the final push for Big Ten's which are approximately four short weeks away. The year up to this point has flown by, but I am extremely confident that the team has taken the right path the entire time and will be ready for anything at our championship meet.
