ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Behind a solid opening two rounds from sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), Northwestern sits in sixth-place at the Dick McGuire Invitational. Facing one of the toughest fields of the season, the Wildcats shoot a 7-over 591 (297, 294) through the first 36 holes and trail fifth-place Oregon by just one stroke.
Facing 10 schools ranked in the Golfweek top-50, Northwestern continues to make a name for itself. The 'Cats finished under 80 in nine of its 10 rounds on the first day of the tournament, including three rounds of par or better.
Lederhausen made her mark early for Northwestern, shooting a personal-best 71 through the first 18 holes. She followed that up with a 1-over 74 to sit in 13th-place at 1-under 145 (71-74) after the opening two rounds. Lederhausen holds a two-stroke edge over freshman teammate Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), who paced the Wildcats with a 1-under 72 in round two. Weaver is tied for 18th-place with a 1-over 147 (75-72).
Sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) is tied for 23rd-place at 2-over 148 (75-73) after shooting a personal-best even-par 73 in the second round. She holds a three stroke edge on junior Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter), whose 5-over 151 (76-75) ranks her among the top-50 of the individual standings. Junior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) rounds out the NU scorecard with an 11-over 157 (77-80).
The Wildcats have their sights set on the fifth-place Ducks (6-over 590), who are one stroke better. Northwestern holds a two-stroke advantage over Big Ten rival Indiana (9-over 593) in seventh, and is six strokes better than eighth-place UC Davis (13-over 597).
Seventh-ranked Pepperdine is starting to pull away from the field, shooting a 9-under 575 through the opening 36 holes. The Waves are five strokes better than host New Mexico (4-under 580) for second place, and are seven better than third-place TCU (2-under 582). UNLV (1-under 583) is also under par for the tournament, sitting fourth.
