EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off its first NCAA appearance since 2005, Northwestern opens the 2009-10 season this weekend, Sep. 18-20, with the Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC) and Olympia Fields Invitational. The tournament will kick off with doubles play Friday morning, followed by singles Friday afternoon and Saturday, with both concluding on Sunday.
Freshmen Sidarth Balaji (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), Chris Jackman (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and Spencer Wolf (Coral Springs, Fla./Laurel Springs) will kick off their Northwestern careers with the Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC). They are joined by Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid), Andrew McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) and Eric Spector (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North). The tournament also features Wisconsin, Ball State and host team Marquette.
Friday's play will begin with NU facing Wisconsin in singles and then Marquette in doubles. Play continues on Saturday with Northwestern facing Wisconsin in doubles and then Ball State in singles. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with doubles against Ball State and then singles against host Marquette.
Last year, Wildcat Alexander Thams won the MTC with a perfect 3-0 record and then-freshman Eric Spector won second place.
