CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the second straight weekend, Northwestern walks away with a tournament title, defeating host Charlotte 25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 25-10 to capture the Comfort Suites Charlotte Tournament and improve to 6-3 on the season. Junior Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) captured her second-consecutive tournament MVP honors, with senior Ariel Baxterbeck (Menlo Park, Calif./Castilleja) and junior Naomi Johnson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) being named to the all-tournament team.

Moffett capped a stellar weekend with 16 kills on 28 attempts with just three errors for a .464 hitting percentage. Johnson set a new career-best with 21 kills on the night, hitting .586 with just four errors on 29 attempts. Baxterbeck also eclipsed the double-digit kill mark, finishing with 12 to go along with 10 digs.

Junior Elyse Glab (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) set a new season-high with 52 assists on the night while digging 10 49er attempts. Senior Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) had 11 digs on the night, second only to sophomore Alexandra Ayers ' (Playa del Rey, Calif./Marymount) team-high 14.

In a very competitive opening set, neither team was able to take control early on. Northwestern finally was able to pull away from Charlotte, using a 7-1 run to take a 23-17 advantage late before a kill from Baxterbeck sealed the 25-19 victory.

Five kills from Johnson paced the Wildcat attack, with Baxterbeck Moffett each adding four apiece Glab helped grease the NU offense, dishing out 15 assists.

Charlotte set the tempo early in set two, racing out to an 8-3 advantage. Northwestern was able to tie the set at 11, but were unable to get over the hump as the 49ers used a late run to take set two 25-19.

Moffett had four kills on five attempts for the 'Cats, with Johnson and Ayers adding three apiece. Glad had another double-digit assist set, dishing out 10.

Set three belonged to the Wildcats from the opening serve, pouncing out to a 15-6 lead. NU would extend its cushion to 12 at 22-10 before finishing off Charlotte 25-14 to take the 2-1 lead in the match.

The junior tandem of Moffett and Johnson struck again, recording a half dozen kills each with no hitting errors between them. Baxterbeck also continued her stellar play in Charlotte, recording four kills, with Glab dishing out 16 assists Nobilio adding five digs.

What the Wildcats started in set three, they continued in set four by roaring out to an early 9-1 lead. Looking to close out the tournament with authority, NU extended its lead to 15 at 21-6 before closing out the 49ers to take the Charlotte Tournament title.

Northwestern will finally take to the court at Welsh-Ryan Arena, hosting the 28th annual Wildcat Classic on Sept. 18 and 19. NU welcomes Akron to Evanston for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Sept. 18. The Wildcats then face a pair of NCAA tournament teams in a Saturday double-header, beginning with Long Island at noon before closing out the classic against Cincinnati at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
