EVANSTON, Ill. -- For just the second time since 2002, Northwestern has been named a 2009 All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and four Wildcats have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes. One of just four Big Ten schools awarded with the honor, NU last received the accolade in 2007.

The ITA recognizes All-Academic Teams as those programs who have a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State were the other Big Ten teams to receive the honor.

Additionally, four Wildcats were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, meaning each earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the 2008-09 academic year. Rising sophomores Joshua Graves, Eric Spector and Tobias Reitz were joined by recent graduate Philip Kafka in being recognized.

With four players receiving the award, NU ranked second to only Michigan State (5) for the most ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The Wildcats will kick off their fall season Sep. 18-20 at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and Olympia Fields Invitational.
