I can't believe our team scrimmage day has already come and gone. Football is funny up here in Kenosha; during two-a-day practices and (seemingly) endless meetings it feels like the days creep along yet here we are on the verge of wrapping up our time away from home. It seems like just the other day we loaded up the bus and took the drive up here.
We had a few quick meetings before we got taped and dressed ready for the scrimmage then hopped on the buses to drive over the Tremper High. It was cool pulling into the parking lot and seeing all the fans already tailgating before we got there. It was like a mini preview to what it will look like when we roll up to Ryan Field this fall for all our home games.
We got going with a few individual periods to work on some fundamentals before we began to scrimmage. The offense started a little slow and the defense was able to force an early three-and-out before LB Ben Johnson took an interception back to the house. The offense needed to get rolling. We came back and answered with a couple of scores, one deep post route to my old Kenosha roommate Kevin "Fry" Frymire. We worked in some special teams reps between scrimmage sets and finished the day with some of the younger guys getting to do some of their first real college scrimmaging.
Overall it was a good day for us. A lot of the guys' parents came up to see the scrimmage and hang out afterwards. My parents and sister came up to see the practice so it was great to see them. My sister brought her boyfriend to the scrimmage, I hear he is a Wisconsin fan... I'm not sure if I agree with her selection :) No, I'm just kidding, he is a great guy and hopefully by the end of this season he will be rooting for the purple and white!
My parents and I went out to eat after the scrimmage with some of the other players' families to a nice little Italian restaurant. I still can't quite pronounce the dish I ordered but I will say it was top notch. Sunday has been a day off to recover and then we are back at it on Monday for our last couple practices in Kenosha! I can't believe it's already coming to an end. Thanks for reading.
