EVANSTON, Ill. -- Cat Backers, the women who support Northwestern athletics, particularly the football program, are gearing up for the fall football season.
Founded a dozen years ago, the Cat Backers meet during the season for lunch and conversation, augmented by the scoop on the upcoming game from an NU coach and a visit with some of the players. When they talk `Catch of the Day,' it's more about who received the ball from the quarterback and did they cross the goal line, not the menu.
The first meeting, Sept. 6, kicks off in Northwestern's exclusive Stadium Club, with its perfect view of the field. Following lunch, Stacy Fitzgerald, wife of NU's Pat Fitzgerald, introduces the head coach. Coach `Fitz' also brings some of his players to the event where they give a little background on their hopes for the season and beyond graduation. A special guest at this year's event will be Dr. Morton Schapiro, Northwestern's new president.
Other dates on the Cat Backer calendar include:
October 8: Hilton Garden Inn, 1818 Maple Ave., Evanston
Special guests: Dr. Jim Phillips, Athletic Director
Randy Bates, Linebackers Coach
October 22: Hilton Garden Inn
Special Guest: Dave Eanet, WGN Radio, Sports Director and
Radio voice of the `Cats
Superbacks coach, Bob Heffner
November 19: Hilton Garden Inn
Matt MacPherson, Running Backs coach
Jay Hooten, Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning
Nolan Jones, Director of Football Operations
Annual membership dues are $25. Luncheons are priced at $25 each and, with the exception of the Stadium Club kickoff, are open to members only. To learn more about the Cat Backers, contact Tammy Walker at 847-467-4799.
