EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern women's soccer will look to win its home opener for the third straight year when the 'Cats open the regular season Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Milwaukee at Lakeside Field.

NU returns six starters from a team that went 10-9-1 a year ago, topping the 10-win mark for the first time since 2004. Junior Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) will be back in goal for Northwestern after starting all 20 matches last season. Also returning are forward Sam Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica), who tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 points (three goals, eight assists), and senior Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura), who added four goals.

Head coach Stephanie Erickson also has several newcomers primed to play prominent roles for the Wildcats in 2009. Catherine Parish (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) was the 2008 NSCAA Oklahoma state player of the year and logged significant playing time in NU's exhibition match Monday alongside fellow freshmen Kendall Thoreson (Seattle, Wash./King's) and Briana Westlund (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park). Sophomore transfer Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) is also expected to figure heavily into the rotation.

Friday's match will be the earliest NU has ever opened a regular season. It will mark the tenth meeting between Northwestern and Milwaukee with the all-time series split evenly, 4-4-1.

Admission and parking are free for all NU women's soccer regular season games at Lakeside Field. Fans unable to attend can follow the match with a live video stream by subscribing to Wildcats All Access or via the free Game Tracker on NUSports.com.
