April 6, 2009

After a tough morning practice and catching up on some homework today, I'm taking some time to relax and watch the NCAA basketball championship with my roommate EP (Eric Peterman). It's good to have EP back. He wasn't around much due to training for the NFL so we've been overdue for some hangout time.

Andrew Brewer with his cousin, Alyssia Brewer, who plays basketball at Tennessee.

I'm excited to see who ends up drafting/signing EP, along with rest of the seniors from last season. Speaking of the seniors, it's different in the locker room and at practice without all those guys. I came in with a lot of these guys and spent the last four years making friends and playing ball with them. I hate to see them go, but I'm excited to see where they end up.

I can't say that I've followed much of the basketball season this year, which resulted in me not filling out a bracket. I'd have to say that I'm cheering for MSU for the obvious reason that it's good for the Big Ten to have a representative in the championship. I went to some NU basketball games this season and that's really all I payed attention to. However, I must confess that I followed the Tennessee Lady Vols more so because my cousin plays on the team. Her name is Alyssia Brewer and she is a freshman this year. She's actually about a 1/2-inch taller than I am and some have argued that she is the best athlete in the family, which may not be far from the truth. I did play her one-on-one a few years back over spring break and I barely squeaked past her. She's quite the ball player. Since we are only four years apart, we were able to go to high school together for a year. My senior year she was starting on varsity as a freshman. It was a unique experience being at the same school and watching her play, but it is even more of an awesome experience being able to her play on national TV at one of the top-notch programs in the country. I plan on heading over to Knoxville next winter to hang out with her and watch her play. Well I'm going to get back to watching the game.

Go Cats!
