We couldn't have asked for better weather on our first day of practice outside in full pads. The sun was shining and it was about 45 degrees outside. Since we we had all the pads on, we got to add a few contact drills to the mix, along with making the last couple of periods live. It definitely feels good to strap on the pads and play some real football. It was a solid first week of practice and a great start to the spring quarter.
After practice I stayed around to watch some film from practice. Once that was over, I stuck around the stadium to watch the softball doubleheader against Indiana. The ladies played well in both games, but what was more impressive than the back to back wins were the two home runs I saw. Nicole Pauly and Erin Dyer not only hit just a home run, they both hit the ball so far that it hit the top of roof of Welsh-Ryan Arena! In my four years of watching softball at Northwestern, I've never seen that happen before! It was quite an impressive sight to see.
Once the softball games ended, I met up with a group of friends to go out to dinner for Amado's (Villarreal) 23rd birthday. We went to eat at this restaurant called The Union, which turned out to be a pretty good place to eat. We ended up hanging out at the restaurant for quite a while, but when we finally left we all went back to Amado's apartment to get some dessert and watch a few episodes of Seinfeld. I'd have to give credit to my dad on getting me hooked on Seinfeld. In high school, I would occasionally watch an episode of Seinfeld with my dad before going to bed. James (Nussbaum), Amado and Scott (Lilja) are arguably the biggest Seinfeld fans around. We've all played Seinfeld Scene It together and it got pretty intense. Time to go get some homework done! My early morning wake-up call will be here soon.
Go Cats!
