Blog Entry #1

Hey Wildcat fans! This is Andrew Brewer. I'm going to be blogging for NUsports.com the next few weeks giving you an inside look to Wildcat football. I hope you enjoy it!

I had a relaxing spring break down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I went with my best buds and teammates Amado (Villarreal) and Zeke (Markshausen), along with a few girls from our FCA group. The weather was absolutely phenomenal with a beautiful high of 85 degrees and sunny just about every day we were there. Amado has been to PV on more than one occasion so he chauffeured us around. We went to the resort pools and beach quite a bit, while playing catch and catching some waves on boogie boards.

Unfortunately for Zeke, he ended up catching a monster wave that sent him into a rope that ended up scratching his face up pretty good. However, that didn't seem to slow him down one bit. Other than just hanging out on the beach we decided to take an excursion on a boat that took us snorkeling and hiking to a waterfall, which was my favorite day of the week. The waterfall was located in a tiny village that could only be accessed by boat. It was humbling to see this tiny little village where these people lived and had virtually nothing except for their houses and a bunch of chickens running around in their backyards. After about a two-mile hike in flip flops we finally reached the waterfall which was amazing. Once we got back on the boat, the tour guides played some tunes and we all had a dance party on the boat. I was a little hesitant at first, but Amado boldly led the way, followed by Zeke, and finally me. I can't say my dance moves are as good as Amado's but it was a good opportunity to goof off and have some fun. In addition to all that, we all ate tons of authentic Mexican food. I thought I would get sick of it by the end of the week, but it just kept getting better each time we ate it. It was great trip with some great people.

After coming off a solid offseason and a fun spring break, spring ball has finally come ... and it couldn't have come any quicker. It seemed like just the other day that I was a reporting to Evanston as a nervous, but excited freshman awaiting to show everyone what I was capable of on the field. Four years later I am a veteran and about to embark on my last spring ball. I can't believe how fast it has all gone and now all I have left is my season of "lasts." Needless to say, I'm more pumped than ever to be playing Northwestern football! However, I wasn't the only one excited for spring ball to start, but so was everyone else in the locker room this morning for our first practice. It's definitely great to be back practicing again and it's good to see all the guys. We finally get to strap on the pads and start playing ball again. Today's practice went really well. The team's attitude was great and everyone came ready to work. We definitely had to knock of some rust, but for the first day it went well. We got a lot of work to do, but as coach Fitz says we don't have to play anyone this spring. We just need to continue to improve each day and we'll be fine.
