Hey `Cat fans!!!
So right now we are on the bus headed for Philadelphia. We just finished our last game of the trip and are now on the way home!!! I really hope our flight is not delayed or canceled due to weather...but we will see in about three hours when we arrive at the airport.
So the last time I think we wrote was after our game against Maryland. As you know our game against Georgetown was canceled, but because it was canceled we got to walk around and shop the rest of the day!!! There were a bunch of shops, but I really liked observing all the old buildings and homes in the area. The architecture is pretty cool and it fascinates me to see buildings that old.
On Friday we woke up early and visited Washington D.C. again. First we went into Virginia to see the Arlington National Cemetery. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was really interesting to see and watch. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, a soldier stands guard. Every hour or half-hour (depending on the season) there is an exchange of guards; it was really detailed and much longer than I expected, but it was incredible to see and I think everyone should take their time to see it!!! After that we walked around the White House and took pictures before leaving for Penn State.
Yesterday we played Penn State and won 5-3. Monka, Tammy and Erin all hit bombs and their hits were enough to keep us ahead of Penn State. It was pretty sweet to win our third Big Ten game and we even had a bunch of fans there!
It was also Jessica Rigas' 22nd Birthday and as a new tradition we decided that for everyone's birthday (not just Haug's) we would get ice cream! I actually yelled out loud when I was told this information, not only because I love ice cream more than life itself, but because the Penn State Creamery is pretty famous for being delicious!!! I knew this in advance because Aly Euler and I watched a special on it one day on TV. I got the biggest ice cream cone I have ever seen in my life from the creamery and it definitely lived up to its name!
That night when we got back to the hotel there was a dance off set for 9 P.M. Two teams, the Dream Cats and The Fat Kids, dueled in what was the funniest thing our team has ever done on the road! The Dream Cat dancers were me, Erin, Feeves, and Pauly, with our choreographer Robin Thompson, manager Aly Euler, and Rigas was on the beats. The Fat Kid dancers were Michelle Batts, Adrienne Monka, Emily Haug and Tammy Williams. I'm pretty sure they had the help of everyone else on the team...but I wasn't concerned because I knew how good our moves were!!! Plus RT is a great choreographer so we were in good hands.
Dance off '09 happened in a conference room of the hotel where our coaches, Janie Baby (Kate and Caryl's Mom), their brother Dave, and the rest of the team and staff watched and judged. The Dream Cats performed first because the other team was too scared. Basically we nailed every move and looked fabulous. Then the Fat Kids performed and it was hysterical. The judges/coaches rated us each with a score of 11, thus ending in a tie. It was probably good the competition ended this way because we did not want anybody to get upset!!!
So after the highlight of my trip (the dance off) we played our second game against Penn State in the morning. It was a little misty when we started warm ups, but the weather held up and we came out right away scoring a run in the first inning. After that our defense held them scoreless, while we scored nine more runs to win it 10-0. We crushed a bunch of home runs and got out of Penn State after five innings!!!
Ok so the last couple of paragraphs I wrote on the bus, but it is now 8:30 P.M. and we have since arrived at the airport and sat here for three hours. Earlier I was praying that we would not be delayed, but unfortunately we are. Not only were we delayed once, but about fifteen minutes ago I was given the sweet news that our flight was moved from 9:15 to 11:50!!!! I have not yet comprehended spending another three hours sitting on the airport floor, but I'm sure my butt will get used to it. The team has moved to a random place in the airport where we have found a bunch of outlets and are watching some of our home videos from this year. Also, we are playing cards, listening to music, and have even begun to make clues so we can play Pictionary until we board.
I really hope we get on this plane soon. Who knew an 8:10 flight could turn into an 11:50 one. The good news is that we won all of our games this weekend and we had a lot of fun traveling and goofing around all week! It makes spending these extra couple of hours together a little easier!
Oh wait...the flight has now been moved to 12:20!!!! Well all I can do now is laugh. On that note I think I'm done blogging. I'm beginning to think that I just keep jinxing myself talking about all these flight times...so we are through here!!!! Hahaha ok well hopefully we make it home before class tomorrow and we will be able to catch up with you guys later on in the week!
Thanks for keeping up with us through the break! We play Michigan State on Wednesday in a double header at home! Hopefully you will be able to watch us one way or another, and we will bring home another couple of wins!!!!
Go `Cats!!!
