EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University announced today (March 26) some schedule changes for the upcoming 2009 football season.
The Wildcats' three home nonconference dates and opponents -- Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Towson -- remain the same, but Northwestern now will play the three schools on different dates than what was previously announced.
Northwestern will open the season with Towson on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Ryan Field. The following Saturday (Sept. 12), the Wildcats entertain Eastern Michigan. Miami (Ohio), which was originally slated to visit Evanston on Sept. 5, will now travel to Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 10.
"We were able to accommodate Miami's request to make a scheduling change in our season-opening game while protecting our three home nonconference dates, which was a critical element in these discussions," said Jim Phillips, Northwestern's director of athletics and recreation. "To be certain, thanks to all the schools involved, along with the Mid-American Conference.
"We know many of our fans had already built their fall calendars around our home football schedule. Fortunately, we still get to play the three same opponents, just on different Saturdays now."
Kickoff times and television plans for these three games along with the Wildcats' other nine games will be announced in the coming months. Northwestern will release its season ticket information on Monday, March 30.
